Before his time in the White House Ronald Reagan got his first taste of executive political experience by running the state of California.  Reagan was able to unseat 2 term incumbent Edmund “Pat” Brown by running on promises to reduce the number of Californians on welfare and regain control over anti-war student protests at Cal Berkeley.
